Editing
I primarily work in non-fiction, my specialty being cookbooks. I am in my element editing material that is meant for the general audience, particularly how-tos; my favourite projects have involved how to make kofta sandwiches, get a divorce, do a will, navigate the K–12 system in BC, prevent renovation disasters, and not get lost on the Trans Canada Trail (now the Great Trail). I have experience with the following:
- cookbooks
- art books
- reports
- websites
- self-help law guides
- self-help business books
- outdoor guidebooks
- textbooks and course material
- teacher’s guides
- workbooks
- scholarly monographs
- corporate memoirs
- magazines
- novels
The clients who regularly keep me busy are Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (BC Office), Figure 1 Publishing, Mark E. Andrews’s AE Publications, Royal BC Museum, TouchWood Editions, and WorkSafeBC. I’ve also edited for Legal Aid BC, the BC Medical Journal, Creative Commons, the Early Childhood Educator, HarperCollins Canada, Kato Design & Photo, CPA Canada, NUVO magazine, ECHO Storytelling Agency, Pacific Educational Press, Horse Lover’s Math, EMBERS Vancouver, UBC Press, Oxford University Press (China), Whitecap Books, Appetite by Random House, and the Law Foundation of BC.
